Like many other families that farm in the Shenandoah Valley, West Oaks Farm is a tenth generation family-owned and operated agri-business. Still in possession of the original deed from Lord Fairfax, owner/operators, Joe and Mary Snapp, have been raising superior Angus beef cattle, growing acres and acres of apples and raising their three children in an effort to carry on the vision and tradition of stewarding rather than simply owning the land, an example from Joe's father, the late R. Roland Snapp. His personal philosophy of land use was truly before his time in that he never felt as if he owned the land he cared for so deeply but rather his job was to nurture its bounty for the next generation to come.
