Wings of Dawn Farm is a small family owned and operated farm in southwest Alamance County. We are committed to being a source for healthy local food. Our fields, pastures and animals are free of chemicals. We use chickens, guinea fowl and goats to control insects and weeds.
Our heritage breed chickens eat a locally milled organic feed as well as their choice of bugs, grasses and other forage. The eggs from these pastured hens are exceptional in color and flavor. The goats and chickens are rotated through the pastures to control parasites, to distribute their manure, and to provide access to fresh forage.
We source our seeds from small companies who share our commitment to preserving heirloom seeds so we can grow vegetables that are nutritious as well as flavorful. By doing so, we also seek to preserve some of the diversity of food that is America's heritage. No GMO seeds are used on the farm and no GMO products are fed to the chickens and livestock.
In addition to selling our eggs and vegetables from the farm we regularly donate eggs and excess produce (seasonally) to local food charities. In 2013, with two other local farms, we began Three Farms CSA.
Our next flock of layers is growing quickly and will soon be moved to pasture. The older pullets and hens are laying abundantly despite the too frequent rain. Eggs are sold from the farm year round, at Burlington Downtown Farmers' Market from April to October and through subscription. Contact the farm to be added to our weekly email report of available products as the season progresses. Place an order to be delivered (limited area) or to be prepared for your pick-up.
