York Seed Company was co-founded in the early 1970s (1972 to be precise), by Dag Lindt and fellow college student Mathias Homsiak, while attending college for Agricultural Sciences & Entomology and Wildlife Ecology, respectively. Since many of the projects that they wanted to do necessitated the use of heirloom plants, organic growing methods, and other requirements that were very hard to locate; they decided to focus their efforts on locating and supplying the then fledgling Back to Earth movement better known today as Going Green being Environmentally Friendly Green Consciousness or just Earth Friendly.
Originally located in the picturesque countryside of Southeastern Pennsylvania and Northwester Delaware, with ready access to major and smaller like-minded growers, we were able to grow the business from a weekend and occasional evening of work instead of study, into a company that provided us with full time positions upon graduation.
