It is not a linguistic thing as much as an AWARENESS process, that does not shut you down or overwhelm you with a lot of INFORMATION.
Learning from HISTORY: Farming and gardening in the first place was an INNATE faculty developed by HUMANS to grow /gather food for survival of the HUMAN BODY!It doers not require PHDs or schooling.The proof:Native Americans and or indegenous peoples of the world did not go to college to learn how to grow crops or study Medicinal Herbs.Medicine Men are interpreters of medicine and the knowledge of the medicinal herbs or foods is not LEARNED in BOOKS or taught in schools and colleges.Challenging question:Name one ancient Native American College and school that graduated Medicine Men or farmers???

Publishing gardening books- for example mostly focusses on ornamentals and colder region climates like up north, mid west and west coast ,where most of agrarian farm land is located and mostly owned and operated by AGRI-BUSINESS using GMO seeds and chemical fertilizers and pesticides.Purpose: Making profts and making more money, offcourse!
Urban farming and family farming is designed for MAKING FOOD and MAKING A LIVING for the LIVING!!!
How to learn how to ur\ban farm?
Talk to your local urban farmer or pay a visit to a loved one ELDER like your dad or grandfather at the nursing home and ask them how did they learn to grow their food and survive the DEPRESSION?
Their answer could be like:By ..."Growing our own food at the VICTORY GARDENS!!!"
Where are the Victory Garden and farms of TODAY? Where are the farmers??
No wonder back then , in WW-II history era ,40% of the food was produced at VICTORY GARDENS: Public agrarian lands manned and operated by volunteers like you and me today, at the community gardens ..But with a great discrepancy ,when compared to our own era:Where are the majority of farmers to produce our food today and who are they in fact?Illegal Immigrants working the fields and and Retiring Senior American Land Owners , ranchers and farmers who are decreasing in number each year, as less and less land being earmarked for farming and more farm land being converted into developments instead, to grow houses not food!!!
Our generation's hands are trained to work key boards and send text messages .Our fathers and grand fathers hands were trained in the field to grow fruits and vegetables.
In a nut shell.If you want to LEARN HOW TO GARDEN IN S>FLORIDA ,please keep in mind the following power points as focal land marks:
1-Be patient.
2-Be tolerant.
3-Be AWARE.In other words KNOW before you GROW and let the one who teaches you be a LOCAL EDUCATED EXPERIENCED FELLOW URBAN FARMER.Some one who has been there working hands on and teaching Heads on.Both working together you and the mentor farmer.
4-BEWARE the false and fake fraudulent "farmers",who are self acclaimed or self proclaimed-farmers who boast of being an apprentice of this or a student of that TEACHER FARMER!Ask for certificates of education from local Horticultural schools like UF for example, a reputable and respected Florida Educational Institute that has Horticultural extension programs in S.Florida and Certified Florida Master Gardeners Graduates with extensive knowledge and experience !!You know them by their fruits ,deeds and evaluation reviews .
5-Be prepared.
6-Start small.
7-Practice .Practice.Practice.It makes perfect...
