Weekly Update May 9th, 2009

Greetings from Oakland Food Connection!

Lots of goings on this week at the Laurel District Farmers’ Market!

The Laurel District Farmers’ Market is open SATURDAYS from 10am-2pm at 4173 Macarthur Blvd in the parking lot of the Laurel Office Center/Trattoria Laurellinos. We’re open year round, rain or shine!

This week:

DJ Daniel Zarazua will be performing at the market! Check out his website and blurb about the farmers’ market: http://www.domingoyu.com/music/events/oakland-community-farmers-market/

We will also be welcoming Special Guest Chef Chanda to the Purple Lawn Café! Guest Chef Chanda will be working with the dedicated youth employees of the Purple Lawn Café making Brazilian veggie and “meat lovers” skewers with pineapple rice! Come by and check out the awesome menu and the hard work these youth are doing!

Our dedicated vendors JP and family of J&P organics, Victoria Bianchi of Biscotti di Bianchi, David and Joyce of Sudear Flowers, and Ana and Eleazar of Rio de Parras organic farms will all be in attendance! Come support small farmers, local vendors and fresh, healthy food! Also, we will be welcoming some new vendors in the coming weeks: local beekeeper Khaled of Bee Healthy Honey and strawberries from Rodriguez farms! Keep an eye out! We hope to see you there.

Also, for those of you that want to keep up on the day-to-day goings on of OFC, check us out on twitter! http://twitter.com/oaklandfood. Thank you all for your continued support and stop by the OFC information table this week to pick up your FREE copy of Edible East Bay! Oakland Food Connection was featured in a full page article in the most recent issue and recognized as a Local Hero Nonprofit Organization!
