Radish Leaves!!??!!

I LOVE this time of year.  It is a new beginning. The rain has finally come a bit, and last week the temperatures in the mornings were refreshing. I did have a cold for most of last week, however with dayquil and the addition of a new helper, I still got a bunch done.  We are sowing seeds and transplanting seedlings, restoring order to beds and taking back the areas of the garden that were overgrown with weeds, grass and neglect after summer's heat beat down on us relentlessly.

Watching the arugula begin to change from tiny sprouts to larger leaves that I know have a spicy tang, and wondering how the radish starts from a small, dark, dead seed to bring forth leaves and slowly turn red, round, and crisp, I am thinking about our very first garden season and how wonderful our first bowl of salad from our garden was. We worked for over a month and eventually used every edible morsel we could. We tried new things and had thanks in our hearts that our hard work and plans had been rewarded, even with these first small blessings. I had never eaten a radish leaf before!!!  I hope that you also will have a sense of this wonder in your first basket of veggies and find things in it to be thankful for.  You can look forward to lettuce, basil, mixed greens, yellow beans, radishes, peppers and eggplants. The first shares will be small and  will increase with the season.

1 Thess 5:18 " In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you."

Smiles,

Farmer Jen
