This NEXT Little Piggie...

We have our next little piggies 'on order', as in our first timer gilt is showing pretty strongly that she's in the family way.  Since she was pen mated we can't predict the exact date.  It's probably within the next week or two...just going by signs.  I'm looking forward to this litter, from a gilt we raised here organically.

I see that the blog posts have not been posting so we'll try it one last time and see if it works. If not, I'll use direct email instead.

Sausage is in the making, it was quite the thing to get that hampshire cross loaded.  He walked right up to the trailer and flipped around, charged back down the pen/alley and decided he could fit through the hay ring section.  Well, he managed it, but flipped it up in the air and it came down and hit one of our loader helpers either on the elbow or upside the head.  She staggered around with her eyes rolled up in her head then fell.  Her lips were white.  Wow! I asked her if she was ok, she continued staggering around but said she couldn't hear me cuz her sight was going weird. Oddball answer I decided she couldn't hear so raised my voice.  She fell, I yelled, till she was responding again, telling her to get up.  My mechanic across the road called and asked if we were ok, was there a snake, lol.  (Like we'd yell at a snake! ) She came around and we hauled her to the truck seat to have a time out.  By the time we got ready to go she was back to herself but will be under observation for a few days now. Just in case.

Never a dull moment down on the farm.

So, when our oldest son got home he loaded that barrow.  Yeah, he's superman.  Guess we'll just wait for him to get off work to load all future hogs!  I took that hog on in and dropped him off.  On the way there I passed through an accident scene in which some trucker had hit a prime 3 year old holstein heifer.  <sigh>  Some farm family is in a world of hurt today. What a waste.  She was not in view when I came back through the scene of the accident, about 11 pm.  Yes, it was a very long day.  The butcher said that folks often dropped off butcher animals as late as 10 pm.  I was so sorry to become yet another one.

On the bright side, our fresh sausage will be ready in about two weeks. Yay! Anyone want to come for breakfast? It will be good fresh food!

Until next time, keep eating it real.
