Wise Acre Farm

Produce, Gourds and Gourd Artistry
(Arbuckle, California)

My First Blog

Hello and welcome to the Wise Acre Farm blog on Local Harvest. This is all new to me, but I am excited to have the opportunity to create a blog. Thank you to Guillermo and the Local Harvest staff for making this possible and for doing such an amazing job with Local Harvest. I have been a Local Harvest member since 2003 and I have watched with amazement as this business has grown, and continues to grow, all for the sake of small family farms.

Wise Acre Farm is one of those small family farms. We are a 20-acre farm in the small town of Arbuckle, California. I moved here by myself eleven years ago, with no farming experience whatsoever. (I have since married and live here with my husband). I was employed full-time as a Graphic Designer at the time and my goal was to start a business growing produce to sell at Farmers Markets and through CSA's. There have been a lot of twists and turns over the past eleven years, but I feel like I have accomplished what I set out to do. I left the Graphic Design job 7 years ago. I grow produce and gourds, and I am a gourd artist. I sell my dried gourds on Local Harvest, on my website and at Farmers Markets. I sell my gourd artwork in art galleries across the U.S. and at Art & Craft Fairs. I sell my produce at the Arbuckle Farmers Market, through CSA's and at our Farm Stand. I also started up and manage the Arbuckle Certified Farmers Market.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I must say that I am incredibly thankful for the life that I have. Living on a small farm is a lifelong dream come true for me.

Thank you for visiting my blog. Hopefully I'll get better at this as time goes on!
