We raise turkeys all Spring, Summer, and Fall and sell them as they are ready at 16 weeks. Our family and customers have grown to appreciate and enjoy turkey for times other than Thanksgiving. Smoked turkey has become one of our family favorites!! So much flavor and so tender.
Do any of you smoke your turkeys? If so, do you have any recipes to share or secrets?
We put our whole turkeys in a 5 gal bucket of water, with sea salt and home grown herbs and soak, iced down, overnight. Then the next day, drain the turkey well and rub down with virgin olive oil and more herbs, minced garlic and onions. Then we smoke it with home harvested hickory chips for usually 4 hours depending on the size.
As my husband carves the turkey, little hands start grabbing delicate pieces from the kitchen before we even sit down to eat!! A real treat!
As we approach the Thanksgiving season, we not only look forward to another delicious MMF smoked turkey, but a special time of getting together with our family and reflecting on all the things we are thankful for. The Lord has truly blessed us!
