The Nimmo Community Garden began in 2009 as a container gardening project with Potter's House, a ministry to the homeless.
Our mission: Growing for God's people - sowing seeds of love! We grow food to feed hungry people in Hampton Roads, Virginia. The garden is 100 x 60 feet and is located at Nimmo United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach.
From summer through fall, our produce is picked and distributed to food pantries and organizations including First Presbyterian Church, Judeo Christian Outreach Center, Courthouse Community United Methodist Church and Sullivan House senior apartments. Most years, we donate over 2,000 pounds of freshly grown food.
We accomplish this labor of love through many warm-hearted volunteers giving of their time, talents, service and gifts.
Family Garden Plots are available to lease for the season. They come in 10'x10' plots and we provide water and informal training.
Field to Fork dinners take place once a month June - August. Produce from our garden and local farms is featured in healthy, vegetarian meals. We offer recipes and tips from certified dieticians for growing and cooking simply.
We welcome everyone to help with gardening, harvesting or delivery. No gardening experience is needed - we will train you and provide tools! You can join a group that meets weekly, or drop in to help. We ask that you contact us so we can provide orientation and training.
