Fresh Vegetables from East Texas!
By: Michael Sanford    (Apr 12, 2011)

I have been receiving fresh vegetables from Homestead Farms for about six weeks now. In addition to the vegetables, the fresh eggs are a bonus! When I first fried up the first eggs, my girlfriend commented that these were the tastiest eggs that she had ever eaten. They seem to be about 30-40% larger too. As far as the vegetables, I can't say enough about the freshness and taste. For example, the sweet potatoes are a meal in themselves. We wrap them individually in a moist paper towel then microwave on high for about six to eight minutes, depending on how many we are cooking. Their taste is so incredible, all they require is a small amount of butter and a couple of sprinkles of salt. As far as the lettuce and other salad ingredients, you can't find a fresher taste. Additionally, the Swiss Chard and leaks are divine when you saute' them in olive oil and serve over, in my case, fresh baked salmon. The bottom line is this, the fresh produce that I receive from East Texas Homestead Farms is unmatched by anything I purchase at one of the local supermarkets, and that does not take into consideration the fact that these vegetables are pesticide free!

weekend country getaway
By: alishia schmitt    (Mar 1, 2011)

This quaint little cottage is perfect to get away and enjoy the outdoors!! The cottage has been fully restored, while the charm and character of the house has not been compromised. The place is very clean and the furniture/beds are quite comfy. A lot of land to go walk around, sit by a campfire, play games outdoors and explore!! There is a wonderful country breakfast, fresh farm eggs, ham, perserves and biscuits that are available and I highly recommend it!! In addition, Mineola is close by so if groceries are needed it's not a long trek into town. There are plently of places nearby to off road/explore, as well as two lakes. The land has a pond in which you can fish as well. Highly recommend this place if you want to get outdoors and enjoy the country! Thanks Vic!!!

Thank-you Alishia. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay. As you have seen there is also a new lake site that has been built. Eventually...if we ever get any rain...there will be more places to fish!

My stay at the cottage was wonderful. The size of the cottage is perfect and the setting is gorgeous. I agree with the previous visitor - the bed is very comfortable! The furniture and decorations were also nice - Good Job Vic!!

Fantastic weekend stay...
By: Sandra Henry    (Dec 20, 2010)

This charming yellow cottage set in the woods is a true joy! The owners have really preserved the natural aspects of the original workshop while creating a comfy, welcoming atmosphere. There were sweet potatoes with fixings and breakfast faire (fresh neighboring farm eggs, ham, biscuits, peach preserves and orange juice. YUM!) A few more delights: relics from the original owner naturalists' collection are on display; old keys, keyholes, door knobs, magazines from the 1800's, etc. When you step into this haven, it feels as though you have delightfully stepped back in time, but with the modern conveniences of heat/ac, refrigeration and running water (thank goodness!). Some may laugh at this next highlight: the beds are so darn comfortable, we slept in later than usual the next morning. I think most would agree that the wrong bed/pillow can really take the joy from a nights stay. And the towels were plush! Although it felt rural, Mineola downtown is just a couple of miles down the road; and don├ó┬?┬?t miss out on East Texas Burger company's burgers and fried pies! Only in East Texas can you see Santa on the main drag on horseback, that was a hoot! I could elaborate on the pluses for several more paragraphs, but will cease with: GO! Visit this gorgeous cottage for a relaxing weekend! Thank you to the Savelli├ó┬?┬?s-- This was a weekend I cannot wait to repeat around fishing time ;)
