Knob Hill Farm was originally established in 1915, according to the barn. When we bought the place in 2013, there was no 'farm' about it. We set to work re-building it into a working farm. We built 3 barns from scratch (by we, I mean Mike with help from his dad), and fenced around the perimeter. We added pasture and ground for a hay/alfalfa/small grain rotation. Our team of draft horses help us make hay and do any tillage that needs done.
We raise Berkshire-cross pigs, Free-Range laying hens, and pasture-raised broiler chickens. All of these are raised Certified Organic. We sell direct to consumer, at the Ames Main Street Farmers Market and through the Iowa Food Cooperative in Des Moines. We also deliver to Ames weekly.
We currently do not sell 'on-farm', as we have to be vigilant about biosecurity - especially as an Organic farm.
Our three children love growing up on the farm and helping with chores. We feel it's important to know where your food comes from and how it was produced. One of our goals is to raise food that you can to be proud to serve to your family.
Orders can be made on our website, or by contacting us directly. Ames delivery is generally on Wednesdays. We're also happy to work with you on delivery to areas within reasonable distance.
