On Sunday, September 10, Farm 255 restaurant is proud to partner with Outstanding in the Field to stage a plein air feast prepared on-site at Full Moon Farms, Farm 255’s sister operation, by chef Tamar Adler.
Outstanding in the Field takes diners literally to the source, celebrating local farmers with white-linen dinners set between the soil and the sky surrounded by the fields that produced the bounty for the table. After a tour of Full Moon Farms, guests will sit down to a five-course, family-style meal at Outstanding's long table in the fields. The menu will highlight ingredients harvested fresh that day at Full Moon and other local farms, prepared in Outstanding's roving al fresco kitchen and paired with wines from sustainable vineyards in the region chosen by Ben Giacchino of Gosford Wine.
“The literality of Farm 255’s connection to Full Moon Farms—the farm pre-dated the restaurant and served as the inspiration and means for its creation—makes a dinner down in Full Moon’s fields an absolute representation of the mutual reliance we’ve nurtured. It’s an honor to be organizing the dinner with Outstanding in the Field, who has worked with so many respected growers and chefs.” says Tamar.
More about Outstanding in the Field
The September 10 dinner is the fifth stop on Outstanding in the Field's 2006 North American Tour. Now in its seventh season, the Santa Cruz, California-based group aims to re-connect people with the land where their food comes from by staging casually elegant, family-style dinners set literally at the source. Farmers, ranchers, cheesemakers and other food producers who provide ingredients for the feast share the table with diners and equal billing with the star chefs who cook the meal. Alice Waters of Chez Panisse fame has called Outstanding in the Field "the restaurant I always imagined!"

More about Full Moon Farm and Farm 255 restaurant
Farm 255 is a restaurant that seeks to reconnect food to its roots & people to their food. Serving local, seasonal, & sustainable food for supper nightly, Farm 255 also manages Full Moon Farms, five acres of organic/biodynamic fruits and vegetables situated on 100 acres of historic farmland in Athens. Farm 255 supplements Full MoonÂ’s harvests with those of other local family farmers and ranchers that avoid harmful chemicals and practice sustainable agriculture. The menu features slow-cooked, homemade food, in-house value-added products, and artisanal methods. Cuisine is comfortable yet creative, with Mediterranean influences and a Southern culinary drawl. The menu is based on seasonal shifts in the field and changes almost nightly. All meat comes from pasture-raised animals and is hormone and antibiotic free. The restaurant purchases whole animals and uses all the various cuts throughout the menu.
The atmosphere at the Farm is rustic yet modern, homey, and lively. The building itself is a recently renovated historic warehouse. Patrons also can enjoy outdoor seating on the spacious European-style patio. The centerpiece of the restaurant is a masterfully handcrafted bar at which guests can drink, eat, or combine the two. Live music is a highlight at the Farm and most of the music is as locally grown as the food. They offer a regular line up of jazz, piano, and classical string music during dinner. After supper service ends on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, Farm 255 features local and regional bands with prominent names and late-night dancing.
