Band of Farmers: The Chicagoland CSA Coalition

Local Food Business
Band of Farmers is a coalition of CSA farms that serve the greater Chicagoland area. We are rural and urban, meat producers and vegetable growers, old hands and newbies, and we find that we have more in common than we have differences. We farm in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. We're passionate about providing clean, nutrient-dense food to our CSA members--and keeping the "community" in Community Supported Agriculture. We've joined forces to educate the public about local foods in general and the CSA model in particular. With 9 million people in the greater Chicagoland area, there are lots of prospective CSA members to go around. You'll see us out and about all over the metro area--now you'll know why. Check out our website for tools to help you find the CSA that best fits your needs--factors to consider, FAQs, an interactive map of pickup sites, a directory of our farmer-members, and information to help you create a pickup site if there isn't one that serves your area. Band of Farmers is a project of Illinois Stewardship Alliance.

Why Band of Farmers? It started with a group of CSA farmers wondering how to market what they do and reach a wider audience. The answer? Put on a show! The first Farmer Talent Show was held in 2013 during the pre-season while the farmers were getting a little punchy from the winter weather. Featuring poetry, music, interpretative dance, performance art, and a fashion show of farmwear, it wowed the enthusiastic crowd at The Hideout. The 4th annual show will be April 9. See you there!
