Briars Farmstead is your homeplace in the northern Shenandoah Valley for nourishing foods produced by Matt and Ruth Szechenyi on the historic farm, The Briars. Set in tranquil scenery near Winchester and a little over an hour's drive from the Washington, D.C. area, Briars Farmstead provides pastured meats, grass-fed cow shares, eggs, seasonal vegetables and meal ideas for you and your family. Passionate about cooking and eating nutrient-dense, grass-fed meats, Matt and Ruth began their grass-based farming operation in 2005. Rotational grazing restores soil fertility and forage quality as livestock thrive on pasture at Briars Farmstead, free from all toxic farming practices. Briars Farmstead offers pastured pork in a variety of frozen, USDA-inspected, vacuum-sealed cuts. Taste the difference of this delicious, nutritious meat from rare-breed hogs. Pastured chicken can be picked up whole, fresh and frozen, May-October. Our slow-growing Freedom Ranger chickens meet Label Rouge standards and are processed on-farm. Please call for orders and availability. Let Briars Farmstead grow your Thanksgiving and Christmas turkeys. Customer feedback consistently confirms Briars Farmstead free-range poultry as exceptionally flavorful, juicy, and meaty. Get your turkey orders in early! Grass-finished beef is available in limited quantities at this point. Contact us with your inquiries.

We are honored to be hosting an event with Chef Tarver King of The Ashby Inn with Outstanding in the Field on September 28 of this year. Check out this wonderful organization on their website. Their mission is to re-connect diners to the land and the origins of their food, and to honor the local farmers and food artisans who cultivate it. Brilliant!
