Well it truly appears spring has sprung as the saying goes.We have used over 1/4th of the garden space already planting all kinds of yummy vegetables including spinach, lettuce, carrots, onions, kale, collards, broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower.Amazing how fast seeds will germinate with a little rain and some warm days.
So far the spring has been moderately dry which hopefully does not forebode a super dry summer. We are continually thankful with every passing shower and rainy day.Temperatures continue to moderate upward with the last frost quickly approaching.Soon enough it will be time to plant tomatoes and other warmer season crops.
Our strawberries right now are in full bloom and we are looking forward to a great berry season. So far so good for lack of insects and fungi as we have not had to use any organic controls and would be thrilled if we could offer a complete SPRAY FREE strawberry. We look for the strawberries to be ready sometime around mid to late May.
We continue to lamb here on the farm although now that seems to be winding down as I have less than a handful of ewes still to lamb.I think we could possibly have the record for longest lambing season since our first lamb hit the ground December 28th, 2008.I will be glad when the last lamb comes and the season will be officially over.
