Welcome to our Farmers Market Blog - THANK YOU to LocalHarvest for adding this feature to an already great website!
Today is a great day for Columbus County Community Farmers Market. We just received notice recently that our market has received an $18,000 USDA Farmers Market Promotion Program (FMPP) grant.
The grant will be used for a variety of local marketing and promotional activities including to organize a community advisory/advocacy support committee to promote the Columbus County market; to develop a market research plan to increase the number of farmers/vendors and their income; to increase market participation – particularly among low-income and diverse community residents; to increase the use of the USDA Women, Infants & Children (WIC) and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons; and to implement a comprehensive business plan and marketing campaign through the use of incentives based on research results.
Shown above with U.S. Congressman McIntyre are members of the Farmers Market Board of Directors, and Marketing Consultant Kip Godwin who helped assist the market in applying for the $18,000 grant. McIntyre is a member of the House Agriculture Committee and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Rural Development.
