Way back ......when the day's were getting shorter.....and I knew they would be getting shorter still I should have gotten more done. Fall is here and gone or at least when the leaves are on the ground, I say fall is gone.
With the season's freezing cold nights I am glad my garden hoses and lines are neatly hanging in the garden shed waiting for spring to return. We have been plenty busy at SunRazed Farm, the garden area's have been turned under, compost has been added and all of the garden area's have been planted with rye which gives a slight red tint to the nice compost enriched soils. If we get a few more warm days the rye will have time to turn a rich green before the snow comes. It is a welcome site to see the green leafyness through the light fluffly snow. Especially in the spring it is the first green we see as the hardy rye will hold its enriching value until the ground thaws enough to be turned in and again waiting for the hardened off peppers tomatoes, to then join the peas beans, lettuce, spinach and later cucumbers, squash ect....
My original comment seasons change your routine, is a half truth really there is little routine on a small working farm there is always something that comes up or a new veggi comming ready to pick which does keep the routine to a minimum.
Stay tuned for my next post as the lambs are beginning their fall arrival....... oh what fun the many trips to the barn!
