Golden Farm

Sleepless on Golden Farm

We decided to expand some this year on Golden Farm.  We spent the last year raising pigs, which was a mostly good experience -- if visiting, bring something to throw to the pigs or you won't get in!  I think the resulting pork was worth it.

We've picked up some non-laying chickens, and have learned the ages-old art of "processing."  We should have some chicken in a few weeks, and are taking orders now on a first come, first serve basis.  It doesn't help that the cute chicks follow me around the farm like Mother Hen - literally.

We are also raising turkeys for the holidays.  After following a truck crammed with unprotected cages, crammed with turkeys, going above the speed limit, all the way to Florida from DC, I vowed - no more commercial turkey.  So I ordered some day old chicks from a reputable hatchery in the mid-west.  My bathroom is currently the residence of 26 turkeys!  Its the only place I have that is warm enough (90 degrees) and safe enough (black snakes abound here and love little turkeys.)  Hence, I am waking every hour, checking on the chicks, and trying to go back to sleep.  They'd best be good tasting turkeys!  You can order one of my darlings now for holiday delivery.

Its time to go for a run before the heat and chores start.

Come visit soon.
