Happy Flappy Farm

Natural, free-range fun!

Spring happenings on the farm

Spring has so many blessings with the greening of the ground and the pretty little heads popping up as the daffodils and hyacinth reach up for the sunshine. The geese are laying and hopefully settling down to raise a brood of goslings. The hens are increasing their laying with the increased daylight and the poulets (the layers in their first year) are starting to lay their small eggs. April 1st we plan to start our first batch of eggs in the incubator, these chicks will establish our layers for 2016. We have one mobile coop constructed and need to construct two more to house these chicks on pasture for 2015. We have arranged to use our neighbor's chemical-free 5 acres for this next year and are looking forward to resting our pastures. Unfortunately this will mean more mowing!

We have been blessed with our goat Merrylegs giving birth last friday to …. triplets!! Triplets are more common in goats than other hoofed animals, twins are more common in goats than singles after a nanny gives birth the first time. That is one reason goats are a great animal for a farm if you can manage to milk them or use them for meat. We are still working on making full use of our goats. ;)
