Urban Oasis Project

Urban gardeners in Zone 10
(Miami, Florida)

Urban Oasis Project puts together great local produce at new Liberty City Farmers' Market!

Our vision is every yard or outdoor space with vegetables and fruits growing. No more lawns, just food. Windowsills, balconies, all planted with food plants, as well as pollinator and wildlife-supporting plants. An urban oasis.

We want good, clean, fair food to be available for all people, regardless of socio-economic status. For this reason, we have worked very hard to assemble local farmers and produce from local farms for our new farmers' market in Liberty City, an under-served inner city neighborhood. We work there, helping people make food gardens in their yards.

In South Florida, it is very difficult to start a farmers' market with local farmers. The problem lies in the fact that we have lost much of our farmland to development, that the farmers left are either contract growers or are too busy farming to go to market, and that we simply do not have enough farmers or farms. Even so, we have managed to get a few farmers to market, and to get produce from small farms that can't come to market. We supplement this with our Urban Oasis project members' home garden produce. Bit by bit, a gorgeous array of local produce has come together at our markets, and we are very proud of our selection!

Please come to the farmers' markets listed:

Tacolcy Park on Saturdays from 12-6. 6161 NW 9th Ave., Miami, FL Dec-April

Roots in the City, Fridays from 12-4. NW 10th St. and NW 2nd Ave.
