Spring has definately sprung!

Glad to have warmer weather finally! Sorry for being out and not posting but had to buy a new laptop. Easier to create posts than on the phone. My first batch of broilers are in the freezer with most of them sold at the market these past few weeks. My laying hens are laying like crazy with all the eggs being purchased by a local store. I have new laying replacements growing up, Rhode Island Red hens and Americanas. Can't wait for more colored eggs! I have quail hatching and they finally started laying eggs. The garden is still waiting for fresh dirt but hopefully next weekend I can plant the transplants I bought. The straw bale garden is doing ok and hope it will grow a little better with all this rain. That's about it for farm life right now.

Snow!!

Got about 5 inches of very wet snow yesterday.  Had to drive home from work in it but it had stopped snowing and the roads were ok by that time.  It was beautiful out this morning with the sunrise and the blue sky.  Cold out though and things were frozen on the farm but not the water thank God!  I have tank and bucket heaters so no breaking ice!!  It is a work saver.  Animals have fresh water all the time and don't have to drink ice cold water.  Sun is out and it's warming up. Time to go out for chores!!

Seedlings

New seedlings started.  Can't believe they are actually spouting with it being as cold as it is!  They are inside but not in direct sunlight and in a plastic greenhouse/seed starter.  Cool!!  I have not had much luck with starting plants from seed, so this is a first for me.

Next project is to build a cold frame and maybe I can have greens year-round.  I am a beginner after all and am excited about all of this.  I planted romaine lettuce and spinach since they are cold tolerent.  Will be starting more kinds of plants soon.

Beginnings

Well welcome to my new blog!!  I am trying this yet again as I have had a blog in the past.  I want to post at least weekly with happenings at the farm.  Right now I am planning a new garden plot.  De-weeding is the first order of business.  Hope to get some photos posted as well so you can see step-by-step.  Winter is the planning stages and thinking about seed buying, where and what to buy.

See you next week with some photos I hope!!
