Put the Fun in Fundraising and Keep Your Dollars Local

We offer FUNdraising shopping events here at my Hubbard, Ohio gift shop. This way, it's a win-win = local groups can make $ AND local folks get the sales instead of sending local dollars elsewhere.
We get so many requests and just cannot do that many so, a few years ago, we started this.
Trying to get donations for a good cause ? Organize a Fundraising Event at my gift shop !  https://hubpages.com/politics/Help-local-Northeast-Ohio-Western-Pennsylvania-charities-to-raise-funds-by-hosting-an-event

You and your helpers would be responsible for printing out flyers for your "Shopping at Diana's Gift Shop for _____________ Fundraising Event " and then getting the word out to BRING IN A FLYER AND SHOP.
10% of sales (before taxes) from each person who brings in an event flyer on that day will be donated to your charity or organization.
Fundraising events do not require a minimum number of partakers, but of course, the more folks that you send in who remember to bring in the flyer - the more that your cause can earn.
*You are welcome (and encouraged) to be here all during event day to welcome folks and thank them for supporting your cause.
During your event day/week, please take photos and post them to your Facebook and twitter... to help encourage even more folks to come out in support. If you would also like to hold a donation can while hosting your event here, you may as some folks might just stop by and donate or shop and still donate more.
Turn a fun day of Treasure Hunting with friends into a money-maker for your fundraiser:)
*Lay-Aways and Lay-Away payments will not count toward the total.
Stop by to see me to make the arrangements for your fundraising event.
Here's the scoop about how this sort of thing works:
We will jointly pick a day/week - shopping hours will be between 12 and 4 if on a Wednesday or from 10 - 4 on Thursday through Saturday.
You will make flyers (include the information below about my gift shop so folks know what to expect and include instructions to bring it in so that 10% of the sales will go to your cause and what day...) and you and your helpers hand them out and spread the word on face book, Instagram and twitter… and in your group and ask all members to help.
When folks come in to shop for the fundraising event and turn his/her flyer in at checkout, I will write down the sales total on the back of each one and keep track of them until the event is over.
I will then total them up and email you with the amount that was earned for your cause on your chosen day and 10% of all receipts during that time would be donated to your organization.
Information to add to the flyer so folks know what to expect when they get here:

Stop by for your Treasure Hunt on __________ to help us raise money for __________________________ .
Take a flyer with you and they will keep track on the back of it what you spent and give us a percentage.

Cancer Fight Fundraiser at Diana's Gift Shop in Hubbard, Ohio

March and October are our "buy pink" campaign months to help raise the funds to be able to keep donating gift baskets to the local cancer fundraisers that we support.
We set aside 10% of those proceeds (on pink items) in honor of my Mom and the long battle that she had with cancer.
You can read more here:
http://giftsbydiana.hubpages.com/hub/cancer-fight-fundraising-at-hubbard-ohio-gift-shop
We also take donations to continue our work here in memory of my Mom if you wish to do that instead of, or in addition to, purchasing pink items.
*Please, "share" this with your network of family and friends... and bring a friend with you when you stop by out little Hubbard, Ohio gift shop.  Thank you.

Almost time to start another new year in the garden - plan for it

Winter time "gardening"

While it is not actual gardening, planning your gardens or on what to change/add... is very important and can save you some work in the long run.

Over this cold Winter is a good time to be planning your gardens.
Some folks think of this as a boring chore, but it can be fun !

Is there something you want to add, what didn't work so well last year and how will you try to fix the problem, would you like to find other uses for what you already grow ... like in a new recipe or for your own natural perfumes?

Take out a notebook or drawing pad and jot down notes about what kinds of things you want to grow and where you might like them to be and how will you use them.

Check on the proper growing conditions for the plants and for your area.
Do you have enough room for that plant/tree/vine ?
Do you have the time or the help to devote to expaning your organic garden or to tending to difficult plants ?

Are there more uses than just food for that plant than you thought such as for perfumes or for healing, or to make baskets, or as a companion plant, or a trap plant, or to attract honey bees to polinate your fruit trees... ?
If so, then you may want to try to fit it in even if it does take up extra room or has special needs - it just might be worth a little extra effort.

It is possible to push the envelope a little with what you can grow if you are careful.
Even within your own yard, sometimes you can have micro climates that allow you to grow something that you shouldn't be able to in your area.

We can use the shelter of our house/shed/garage/taller plants/trees/... to give protection to more delicate plants and this might let us grow them even when the zone limit is borderline for us.
I am in zone 5 and I have easily been able to grow many zone 6 crops using mulch/sheltered spots/other plants as protection from wind... .
There are many tricks to help us, BUT learn the proper methods first because even then - success is not assured.
I do not want anyone to try to push the limits right off the bat and then give up - thinking that they cannot do well at organic gardening.

After you have figured out the basics, go for it and have fun experimenting in your own organic garden !
