We're offering CSA shares this year and Goat Rentals

This year we are pleased to offer CSA shares.  We are starting with 5 full shares this year.  The shares are $25/week.  We were able to
extend our growing period last year until November...so, we plan our shares to begin in May and go to November.  You can see full de-
tails on our listing.   We are also beginning a Goat Rental program.  We are an Animal Welfare Approved farm and this will help the
health of our animals through rotational grazing.
We were blessed with 3 healthy baby goats this Spring and all were does.  Their Sire, Penkerton (a registered Saanen), produced
ALL does this year!
Spring is finally here and with it a lot of work for everyone but, after this past Winter I think everyone is ready!
Gardening has begun.  Potatoes and onions planted.  Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Raddichio, Amish Deer Tongue Lettuce, Looseleaf and Romaine
lettuce set out and under row covers.  A few tomatoe plants set out and under cover.  The weather is still a little unpredictable here but, more work
to come in the upcoming days.
Happy Gardening Everyone!

Spruce Pine, NC Farmers' Market this Wednesday

Last weeks' market showed a sign of fall.  Root crops such as irish potatoes, sweet potatoes and turnips were at the market.  We had pumpkins...the Sugar Pie pumpkins are in and they make wonderful pies.  The roasted seeds are delicious too!  We'll have the Snack Jacks' for next Wednesdays' market.  The Jerusalem Artichokes are looking good too.
Tomatoes are about over for most of the farmers' around here...the late blight hit hard.  It also hit our cantaloupes...hope to salvage some though!
We have fresh corn leaves for wraps and hope to have banana leaves for next Wednesdays' market.
Just gathered some green Oxacana "dent" corn and broom corn to dry for Falls' decorating time.  We'll be making swags and brooms from the broom corn and will have those in the store to sell.  Will gather the Bloody Butchers' corn to dry some next week.  We hope to leave some in the field to dry naturally to use for grinding and making into breads.
