Happenings at the Bluegrass Farmers' Market!

Wow, it's been an exciting week for the Bluegrass Farmers' Market! In case you haven't heard, we have found a replacement location for our Richmond Rd. market! Yup, the folks at Liquor Barn in Hamburg have invited us to set up for our 2015 market season! We want to thank them for coming to our rescue and also thank Pedal the Planet and Fast Signs for allowing us the use of their parking lot for all of those years. Of course, Azur Restaurant & Patio deserves our thanks too because they were gracious enough to allow a few of our members to start selling earlier than normal due to the Easter and Passover holidays. We thank them all. :)

The opening day for the Liquor Barn Hamburg market location is going to be April 18th...next Saturday! Make plans to come visit us. Don't forget that our Azur Restaurant & Patio market is open tomorrow. Granted, it might be limited participation but what you will find will be honest to gosh homegrown or produced by our members...guaranteed! The folks at Hokhmah Farm will be bringing their wonderful home baked breads and fresh spring kale!!! And, you never know who else might show up.

I thought I would share a recipe using kale that a friend (thank you Sherry) gave me...sounds delicious, especially sopped up with some home baked bread!

Portuguese Kale Soup

1 chopped onion
A couple of cloves of garlic
3 good sized carrots chopped
1 lg can whole or diced tomatoes
Kielbasa
Chicken stock
1 can rinsed cannelleni beans, or any white bean
One or 2 bunch of kale washed, big stem removed and chopped up
Olive oil for sauteing
Salt and Pepper as desired

Saute onions, garlic and carrots until translucent and limp low and slow
Add tomatoes
Add broth
Add cut up kielbasa
Cook 20 minutes
Add cannelleni beans cook another 5 minutes
Add chopped kale, and cook till kale is tender. About 10 minutes more.

I smash a few beans on the side of the pot, too add some body to the soup.

Okay, now back to some great news for our market...we have a new member and they will be selling their locally made cheese! Heavenly Homestead Cheese from Windsor, KY has joined our market! Look for them in the coming weeks. It sure looks like an exciting season for our market and we couldn't be more thrilled.

Stay tuned for more wondermus news...not sure that is a real word, but it sure explains how we all feel right now! :)

Your friendly blog gal,

Karin :)
