After a fashion, she let my nephew take the lead. Apparently they came across the buck that has been rampaging and destroying our sweet corn crop throughout the season.. My brother and both knew it was a big deer just by the size of the hoof prints it leaves behind and the fact that it bites a corn cob, husk and all, in half leaving the shank portion on the stalk before moving to the next plant. They both never believed us when we told them what was happening. Even when they saw the bit off corn cobs, they didn't believe. They do now!!
My niece in law, who isn't a country girl, exclaimed, excitedly "It's the biggest deer I've ever seen in entire life!!" Later, after they had left for home, I told my brother "Yeah..... It's the biggest deer she's ever seen......." She's only ever actually seen 3 or 4 of them in her whole life.
I give my niece in law a lot of credit. She wants to learn how to grow produce and preserve them. She wants to learn how to both, can and freeze. She even wants to learn how to raise beef and chicken. Even pork. She's in luck. We can teach her how. And we will.
Spring is right around the corner. Our onions are up and growing in the greenhouse. We've started the peppers and eggplant.
