bad day on the farm
Well, last saturday rascal one of our beagles got lose and went on a killing spree. The count was 7 dead chickens and three injured. The three look like they are going to be ok but our eggs numbers are way down. I guess these things are going to happen when you allow your birds to roam freely on the farm. We do have more egg chicks under the heat lamp right now but it will be a few months before we see any eggs from them.
Plants and weeds are starting to pop in the garden and that means we will have greens real soon and the work of pulling weeds is here. The life of a cheap farmer no tracktors just hand power.

May Update
Well it is the 1st week of may and work list is pilling up. I took a few days off to make the list smaller. We had our 1st customer from Local harvest contact us and we are real excited to work with her and her family. I do believe that she will be more then happy with the produce she buys from us. As I told her on the phone are main goal here at Sugar Dirt is to produce the best product on the market.
Our June chickens our now sold out with July’s going fast. So if you want to eat the best chicken in world time is running out. What? Surprised with that claim so were some of our other customer until they ate one. If you have any questions please give us a call and we would be glad to answer any and all. Well my break is over it is back to the garden for some more planting, pulling but no harvesting yet. Thanks, Joe.

The farm is coming alive
The farm is alive. The pasture is green and growing fast. The bugs are starting to come out of their long winters nap just in time for our laying hen to chase them around. With all the bugs and grass that these ladies consume makes their eggs great tasting and a lot heathlier then those white spheres that a person gets from the store. Our eggs are in such a demand that we had to increase the size of our flock. In Fact we had to double the size of our flock. We are going to have Delaware chickens and Araucanas which are call the Easter egg chicken for the bluish green that they produce. Our diner chickens will be pasture this week with the next batch of chicks coming in the first part of May. It is our goal to have a batch ready to be processed the first part of each month from June to October. We believe we have the best tasting, the healthiest diner chickens in the world. Of course we are partial to our own chickens but we have had more then a few customers agree with us. If you are interested in trying the best tasting chicken in the world lets know.
It is still early for the garden but it is just a matter of time. All our potatoes and onions are in the ground. The first batch of spinach, chard and greens have been planted. We have planted some sugar snap peas this year and we are looking forward to some of these great tasting peas. We have 4 different types of beets sown, Red, golden, white and bull eye. We have even taken a chance and put some sweet corn in the ground, we know it was a little early but if it comes up we will have some early sweet corn to eat and sell. Chicks are Here
Our first batch of diner chicks came today. It is hard to believe that these soft cute little chicks will become an eating machine that will devour anything in front in four weeks. Then in another 4 weeks they will be ready for table. For the first two weeks of their live they will be in our brooding room then they will go out to pasture in a chicken tractor for the next six weeks. Our birds are raised in the fresh air where they get new ground daily to do what chicken do.
