Moving Forward

Well lets see, there's a lot to tell.  We learned today that we were approved for the High Tunnel Greenhouse through the NRCS.  Hoping to have it up this spring.  We began planting our gardens this weekend.  We put Onions, Cabbage, Cauliflower out and we're working on getting our potatoes and peas out today.  The chickens are laying everyday now.  Our Quail should be hatching within the next 2 weeks.  The springtime brings so many new things to do and challenges to meet.  I'm really excited about the Farmers Market this year.  It starts in April this year, we won't have any vegetables until the middle to end of April but we will have, Jelly / Jam, Eggs, Pork, and Homemade dog treats (Natures Canine Treats).  Please come out to see us we will be there every Saturday in April and Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays in May~ Oct.  Can't wait see ya'll.

Whats Up?

Well we continue to move along on the farm even tho Randy had to have some stints put in his heart he's back on his feet working hard as ever to get everything done.  We began fencing a new pasture this weekend for the cows.  He got our gardens plowed and I took the soil to be tested.  Will be getting our potatoes, onion, turnips, lettuce, cabbage and greens out the next two weeks.  We will also be making more flavor of dog treats (remember it's also important to keep our dogs healthy)  We got a few more chickens this weekend and our quail eggs should arrive any day.  A lot going on here lately can't wait till warmer weather comes and stays.  The local Danville Farmers Market opens April 7th this year, it will be open every Saturday in April then in May it will be open Tues, Thurs. and Saturdays.  Really looking forward to seeing everyone out there.  Everyone have a safe week and remember:  IF IT AINT FROM THE COUNTRY IT AINT COUNTRY FRESH!

Whats Happening today?

Worked all week on the new cage for Quail, its coming along great, Randy has really done a great job.  Its raining today so not so sure he'll get much done on it today.  Chickens starting to come out of their coop into their pen, now its like pulling teeth to get them back in at night. They want to stay out as long as possible.  For every 3 i get in 2 more come out Lol.  They are starting to get their combs now.  Shouldnt be much longer till they are laying. We switched the hogs to a new feed and they don't like it as much as the cracked corn.  Check out our facebook page for some latest pictures.

Whats new today?

Well, only in Kentucky at the end of January could you see your tulips coming up!  How crazy is that.  Started a new project today also.  Making cages for the newest members of our farm....  We're getting Quail.  Don't know anything about these birds but how to make a cage to hold 50 of them . My husbands pretty bored right now, he doesn't have enough to keep him busy so this is our latest project.  I'll keep you informed.  Also started my planning for the garden.  Looks like by the end of the month i'll have cabbage seeds in dirt.  And some good news is perhaps we will be getting our greenhouse soon (Middle of March)  Can't wait.  I'll keep you updated on this also.  Looking forward to tomorrow, gonna be another warm beautiful day.  God has blessed us in so many ways this year and weather is one of them.
