Changing of the Seasons
Arbuckle, California is known for it's almond production. There are almond orchards as far as the eye can see in our small town. The beginning of almond harvest is always an exciting time for me because it signals that fall is on the way - my favorite time of year. This is a particularly exciting year for us because we will be getting our first harvest off of our young ten acre orchard. Yesterday, I heard the first shakers off in the distance - the official start of almond harvest. Our trees are later varieties, so we have a few weeks before our trees are harvested.
We have had unseasonably cool weather here in Northern California for the past few days, further enhancing that feeling that fall is on the way. Just a tease though, as we are expected to have temps back up in the 100's next week. Although still harvesting beautiful summer crops for my CSA and Farmers Market, this weekend I will be planting my fall and winter crops out in the field and in the greenhouse in anticipation of the changing of the seasons.
