Today is the kickoff. It has been 81 days since we recorded full bloom vs our long-term average of 65 days. The weather is perfect and we expect to be very busy.
Please be patient. Because of staff limitations and the added effort needed to ensure quality we are doing U-pick only, for now. Bings/vans are $1.75/lb, Rainiers are $2.00. Please bring cash or check.
We will open for cherry sales at 9:00 AM on Saturday, June 25th Hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Bings/vans $1.75/lb, Rainiers $2.00.
Note: Parking here is tight so please help us by doing what you can to limit the number of vehicles. If we run out of parking spots somebody will have to wait to get in.
Our earliest opening date will be about June 24th or 25th. We will set a firm date and post it here two days in advance of the opening. Warmer days and clear skies are what we need!
Monday, June13, 2022. After 19 hours and an accumulation of 0.65 inches the dribbling rain has finally stopped. There is a little additional splitting but only about 5 - 10% of the cherries appear to be affected. We still expect to open sometime the week of the 20th. What we need now is sunshine, and lots of it!
First the bad news: We recorded a solid half inch of rain overnight that wetted the fruit thoroughly. There will be some splitting. The wind has helped dry things out this morning, but more rain is possible over the next few days.
Now the good news: Only a small fraction of the cherries are ripe enough right now to be really vulnerable to splitting. Also, as the fruit gains color it is becoming clear that there is a larger crop than we had expected. If the rain leaves us alone we should still have lots of cherries. Best estimate of start date is still sometime between June 20th and 25th. Stay tuned.
We expect to open for cherry sales sometime between June 20th and 25. The cool weather during pollination and throughout April and May is to blame. Check here or call Jim after June 18th for a schedule update.
