Boulder Knoll Community Farm CSA's season runs from mid June until mid October. Each member picks up a generous share eight times - every other week. We offer a wide variety of useful, flavorful vegetables and herbs lovingly grown with attention to soil health and biodiversity. Fruit grown by High Hill Orchard will be included in your share. We offer choices which allow members to pick the veggies they prefer. Pick-your-own flowers and herbs will be available. Some pick-your-own veggies may be available. Members are offered the opportunity to glean from the garden at the end of the season. Sharers pick up produce at the farm on Sunday (tentative).
Sharers are asked to put in either 5 or 15 hours of work per share for the season, depending on membership level selected. One might work on administrative tasks, harvest, distribution or garden tending depending on one's ability and inclination. Children accompanying adults are welcome, as we believe they should engage in meaningful work and have a first hand understanding of where food comes from. A few no-work shares are available. A small number of work intensive shares are offered (30 hours/ per season) for people who have an interest in being more deeply involved in growing practices. Work intensive members must apply and be interviewed by the farmer.
We strive to run the farm in a sustainable manner. We do not draw electricity from the grid and do most of the bed preparation, planting, cultivating and some mowing with hand tools. We incorporate permaculture and biodynamic practices.
We are committed to making healthy, real food available to under-served communities. As such, we donate a significant amount of first quality produce to soup kitchens and food pantries in Cheshire, Meriden and/or Waterbury.
