Chautauqua is committed to bringing our customers food that supports not only their personal health but also the planet's. Our food is free of gmo, rbst's in milk, preservatives, metabisulfates, transfats, hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup and other ingredients that do not support a healthy lifestyle. For over 25 years chautauqua natural foods has taken on the role of gatekeeper in screening food for adulterants. The increasing trend toward "industrial organics" has expanded our offerings of regional and local products. We source fruits and vegetables from local farmers like the garberville community farm and our local farmers market. We source local honey and bee pollen. Our eggs come from various local producers. Chautauqua is a partner with the humboldt county chapter of the community alliance with family farmers (c.a.f.f). C.a.f.f. Sponsors events such as the "buy fresh buy local" program and the designation of september as humboldt county's local food month. Organics are always our first choice, but we work closely with "transitional" farmers to enable them to make the switch from conventional to organic agriculture. We do carry a small percentage of grocery products that do not meet the usda organic standards. These items have been carefully screened and selected to meet our health and wellness quality standards. Chautauqua also screens for good corporate citizenship. As corporations have increasingly purchased independent providers purely to cash in on the expanding organic base, often their actions and investments do not support the organic lifestyle. These products have been removed from our shelves.
