Shelterbelt Farm is the pride and joy of the Modisher family: Craig, Erica and their children Rowan and Phoenix. We're located in the scenic rolling hills of Caroline, NY, in the Finger Lakes region just southeast of Ithaca. In 2010 we began producing chickens and turkeys on abandoned overgrown land, the first stage of our vision to create a regenerative silvopasture farm with diverse edible perennials and livestock grazed in the alleyways. We are now many years into this long-term plan and have semi-dwarf orchard trees and fruiting shrubs, chicken eggs, 100% grass-fed sheep and beef, honeybees, and overnight accommodations in a glamping tent on our farm.

We believe production practices that emphasize soil health go hand-in-hand with high-quality food, human health, and good land stewardship. Our sheep and beef are 100% grass-fed and grass-finished, and are moved daily to new pasture. Our poultry roam freely, eating bugs and forage, supplemented only by non-GMO grains, and our fruit trees and shrubs are sprayed only with organic amendments like fish, kelp, and compost tea.

Our trees and livestock work together to regenerate the health of this long-abandoned farmland, while sequestering carbon and producing 10+ different crops per acre. Visit www.shelterbeltfarm.com to learn more and find out where to buy our products.
