We are proud of our weeds. Weeds by another name are called herbs, nature's pharmacopoeia. We never use herbicides on our farm because weeds are a good sign of a healthy environment and including them in our pastures provides increased nutrition and diversity in the grazing mix. Keeping the land free from chemical treatments means our pastures are filled with a lush mix of hardy plant life that attracts more native and migratory pollinators. The grass crops we add to the mix are planted using methods that do not disturb the ground;our no-till protocols allow for native perennial grasses (weeds) to grow alongside those we plant.
Our cattle are an Angus mix, and they are all born right here at Falling Creek Farm. In the past fifteen years we have cultivated in our herd a blend of genetics that allows our animals to thrive without the many modern interferences deemed "necessary" on conventional farms. Our cattle are never fed grain, never vaccinated, or given antibiotics, hormones, or other chemicals. Ours is truly "lifetime grass-fed and grass-finished" beef. The cows live in large pastures, unconfined, and graze on grasses, weeds, brush, clovers, and even low hanging trees; they drink from the many springs on our property. We provide them with naturally harvested salt-based trace minerals and supplement them as needed with hay that has been grown and harvested right here on the farm.
