Our last beekeeping class of the year!
We developed this class to give an introduction to beekeeping – so that people who have never experienced working with bees – can have an opportunity to get not only a classroom start to the lifetime of education – but also hands-on as we inspect hives.
Having a hands-on class can allow you to decide if beekeeping is right for you – and what to expect. You will see the inside of an active hive and handle frames of bees!
You will observe and help Laura and Rex complete a full hive inspection, such as identifying eggs, workers, drones, and the queen.
This Educational Agritourism class will be held at Owenwood Farm and Neighbor Space in Dallas Tx. Classroom time will consist of approximately 2 hours, then we will proceed to the apiary for the field class portion.
What Laura and Rex will cover:
- Basics of the bee/bee biology
- Learn to identify different stages of honey bee development
- Roles and responsibilities of the bees in their colony
- Necessary equipment Bee hive components
- Hive maintenance
- Full inspection of a functioning bee hive
- Question and answer session at the end of class
- HANDS ON EXPERIENCE IN THE APIARY
