Benevolence Farm

Benevolence Farm began a small farming operation in spring, 2015 on 13 acres of land in southern Alamance County. We currently have just under 1/4 acre in vegetable production and plan to expand to 3 acres over the next two years. As soon as funding allows we will provide a 6- to 24-month holistic, transitional living program based on the working farm for 5 and eventually up to 12 women leaving North Carolina prisons. Residents will be partially self-supporting through growing their own food, their labor contribution to the farm, and the sale of harvests through local farmers markets, a CSA, and sales to restaurants and institutions. We are providing a portion of our harvest to low-income communities through partnerships with food banks and churches. Programming will include: entrepreneurship and small business skills, career building, financial literacy, family reunification, agriculture, horticulture and permaculture, food preparation and presentation, value-added production, nutrition and wellness, addiction recovery support, diverse food traditions, and community building. We are currently providing short-term programming in collaboration with other local agencies who serve formerly incarcerated and other at-risk women.
