As a young child, my mother had a pet duck named, "Ducky Lucky." What she didn't understand at the time was that Ducky Lucky was a working duck who provided eggs for her and her grandparents. Eventually Ducky Lucky stopped laying, and my mother was devastated when she thought her duck ran away. You can guess how the story ends.

When I moved from the Mid-Atlantic to Washington State, I became enamored with the quiet beauty and stillness found here. I learned how to breathe. After seven years in the PNW, I decided to try my hand at raising ducks. I find them hypnotizing, relaxing, and entertaining.

When I told my mother that I had ducklings, she asked me to name one "Ducky Lucky." I had previously decided not to name them so I wouldn't become attached to them. After some thought, I named all of the females "Ducky Lucky." Mom is very happy.
