Earth & Sea Farm - home of FLORIDA KEYS SEA SALT WHERE WE ARE: In the wilderness of the Florida Keys; about 15 miles from Key West, on the bus line; bicycling, swimming, school track and more on island. OUR FARM NOW: Small island farm, currently harvesting solar evaporated sea salt, packaging for culinary and bath use; finishing locally harvested natural sea sponge, fabricating useful items from recyclables. GOALS FOR THE FUTURE: Simplify systems, increase harvest of naturally occurring and garden produced foods on the land, complete some long delayed projects, restore gardens for family/helper food and marketing, return to composting without a wild rumpus of raccoons!; considering community composting, seek grant funding, improve web presence. SPECIFIC FARM PROJECTS: Restore and fence in gardens; bigger salt houses to increase yield; extend irrigation from salt water well to big salt house yard; relocate plants on the land, remove invasive species encroaching upon native acreage, trim and plant trees , restore and improve swimming hole; build websites, repairs to main house, garden and other buildings; complete cistern; cooking projects, build more salt houses, some computer projects. THE FARM FAMILY: English speaking Midge and Tom are committed to recycling and are organic where possible; farm cats (skittish), native Key Deer, wading birds, migratory birds, raptors and other endangered species on the land. CURRENT MOTTO: Simplify. Simplify, Simplify. WHO WE WOULD LIKE TO HOST: Progressive, cooperation minded individuals, couples (children and pets considered *smile*).
