Florencia Farm of Upper Marlboro is a 5-acre family farm which grows heritage food crops such as African-Caribbean Vegetables to address the increasing demand for a more diverse and nutrient-dense diet by the Mid-Atlantic region, home to a significant foreign born population and underserved communities in the Washington Metropolitan area.
As the need for a diversified diet increases due to demographic shift in the region, John Manirakiza has worked with various partners such as community based organizations, faith based organizations, educational institutions such as K-12 and institutions of higher learning, to develop a plan to increase the production of a variety of vegetables highly in demand from these special demographics.
Crops to be grown by Florencia Farm include but not limited to African Eggplants (garden eggs),Callaloo, okra, Hibiscus, Jute Leaf, Malabar Spinach, Nigerian Spinach and various cruciferous vegetables such as kale, collards, mustard greens, cabbage, cauliflowers, and more.

Farmer John plans to introduce one of the newest Community Supported Agriculture CSA within his community in order to increase the access to safe, fresh and healthy food.
As a steward of the farm, Mr Manirakiza practices regenerative methods which include No-till and little or no use of artificial inputs such as chemical fertilizers, insecticides and pesticides.
His aim consists of healing the people and the soil.
By supporting Florencia Farm through CSA, Volunteering, you contribute to addressing food and nutrition issues in our community while you participate in healing the people, the soil and the environment. It is a Win-Win-Win for the people, the planet and the farmer.
