The mission of the Jefferson Farmers Market is to provide our citizens and visitors with additional fresh food options; increase awareness of our local food producers, and promote sales for our local entrepreneurs and businesses. This is accomplished by providing a safe and festive place where our community can come together.
The Jefferson Farmers Market has been in existence for eight years. The first two years we co-hosted with the city of Commerce. One week in Jefferson, one week in Commerce. By mid-season of the second year it became clear that the vendors wanted to be in one place, the same place, every week. The local customers also wanted to know that they could come to Downtown Jefferson every Saturday to get their produce from their favorite grower. Since then, we have hosted our Farmers Market in Downtown Jefferson every Saturday during the market season.
In spring 2015 we saw that the USDA was presenting workshops on how to get grant money for your local farmers market. After attending the workshop, a grant application was submitted and thankfully, we were awarded one of the two-year grants. The funds from that grant directly support the promotion, expansion and running of the market. So you will see a lot of new things this year. Including new promotional items (t-shirts, hats, shopping bags, and bumper stickers), an increased social media presence, special events and promotions, a GeoTrail, public transportation, a re-structured organizational committee, and more! We look forward to growing our market, and wold love to have you be a part of it!
