A Shared Commitment By signing up, you dedicate yourself to being our customer for the year, thus providing us with a secure market -- a welcome measure of certainty in the uncertain world of farming! In turn, we dedicate ourselves to being your farmers and providing you with the best vegetables you have ever tasted! Shared Risk; Shared Reward We do our very best to bring you a beautiful and bountiful box each week, but since our boss, mother nature, provides no guarantees -- we can't offer any either. One of the premises of a Community Supported Agriculture program is that the shareholder shares, through the vegetables, the farmers' experience of nature's mischief (and bounties). Not to Worry! The weather woes would probably never rob you of all your veggies. Even during the drought of 2012, we were able to produce each week. Our farm is equipped with drip water systems to protect our crops as much as we can. This lowers the chances of crop failure for our farm and its members. How much is in the box? The selection of produce changes from week to week, as does the total volume and weight of the boxes. We do our best to fill your ¾ bushel produce box, equivalent to about 1½ regular paper grocery sacks. The first boxes of the season offer mainly leafy greens, and weigh 7 to 12 pounds. From late summer through fall, the boxes may bulge with over 20 pounds of produce. One full share generally satisfies the needs of two people with a vegetarian diet, or four people with a mixed diet. Really Fresh, Really Local These days, "fresh" seems to mean fresh off the truck from California. For us, fresh means we hand-pick the vegetables in your box within 48 hours of pick up. Our farm is a 35 minutes northwest of Chicago! We are hands down the closest farm to the city of Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. DON’T LET YOUR FOOD TRAVEL ON A TRUCK! There are no secrets here if you have any questions about your produce you know who to ask! How You Get Your Box Please pick up your box directly from our farm! We unfortunately do not deliver. FAQs about Becoming and Being a Shareholder What is a shareholder? When you sign up, you dedicate yourself to being our customer - i.e. a shareholder - for the season, 12 or 20 weeks. This provides us with a secure market, which is a welcome measure of certainty in the unstable world of farming! In turn, we dedicate ourselves to being your farmers and providing you with nothing but the best produce. What does it mean to be a shareholder? We strive to bring you a beautiful and bountiful box each week, but since our boss, Nature, provides no guarantees, we can't offer any either. One of the premises of a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program is that the shareholder shares, through the harvest, the farmer's experiences of both Nature's mischief and blessings. Our farming experience have shown us how to minimize as many risks as possible --from drought (we have an excellent irrigation system) to floods (not as easy to deal with depending on severity) Is it possible that I would pay for a share and then not receive a full season's worth of produce due to bad weather? The weather woes would probably never rob you of all your veggies. But keep in mind we cannot control the weather. Our job is to farm and bring you the best bounty possible in a given season. We slave early AM to late PM to make your investment worth your hard earned money. Please Remember, I want all of my share holders to return year after year… so count on nothing but the best from our farm. Are any of the crops genetically engineered? Every effort is made to keep our crops free of GMOs. We only plant Heirloom seeds from Bakers creek and Johnny’s Seed Company.

1. •Lettuce - We aim to provide you with 2-3 heads of lettuce within each box. During the beginning of the season, 3 is more common as the heat of the season hasn't provided enough for many of the other vegetables to grow. 2. •Cooking Greens - You should expect 1 type of cooking green each box. This is generally Swiss chard or kale. 3. •Salad Greens - Generally you will receive one salad green in each box. These go splendidly with the lettuce provided or on their own. Example (Arugula) 4. •Brassicas - These are our cool weather loving crops (Broccoli, Cabbage, Cauliflower) get 1-2 different brassicas in each box. 5. •Root Crops - 1-2 root crops should fill your box each week with beets starting off the season. Don't worry if you are not a huge fan of beets, you'll get plenty of carrots also. 6. •Fruiting Crops - These are often the ones that people rave about. These include tomatoes, eggplant, melons and more. You'll get one type to start the season but as the season progresses, your box will swell with four, five maybe even six different types of fruit crops. 7. •Onion Crops (or Alliums) - Each week, you should find one type of onion crop hiding out in your box. From garlic to scallions to onions to leeks, we hope that the earthy aroma and taste of these beautiful vegetables bring visions of the farm to your table. 8. •Herbs - Basil, sage, etc.
So, how many for dinner? We do our best to fill your 3/4 bushel produce box to the brim, equivalent to about 1 & 1/2 regular paper grocery bags. From late summer through fall, the boxes may bulge with over 20 lbs of produce. One full share generally satisfies the needs of two people with a vegetarian diet or four people with a mixed diet. Shareholder Agreement I would like to be a shareholder in the Frillman Farms' Community Supported Agriculture Program.
