We have been very busy at Martha's Gardens growing vegetables, plants and flowers this summer. The garden has been very productive; in fact it has been producing more that we can sell from our farm stand and the two farmers markets that we attend. We have decided to give CSA boxes, or harvest boxes a trial.
CSA stands for community supported agriculture. It works by providing a weekly box of fresh fruits and vegetables to families in our community. It's like having someone grow your fresh produce for you so that you know exactly where it comes from. There is an annual membership fee that works out to about $15.00 per week for a family of four and is paid at the beginning of the season to help pay for seeds and other things needed to get the garden going. At this late date the fee would be paid on a month to month basis. The farmer chooses the contents of the weekly box from what is currently available that week. There may be some new and different choices that give the consumer a chance to try something new. The boxes are usually picked up at the farm or in some cases delivered to your home. We are sending out this note to friends and neighbors to find out who might be interested in participating in the CSA. We could be prepared to start providing boxes as early as next week. Please call, e-mail or message us if you are interested in purchasing a weekly produce box!
