Grassroots Grocery

Grassroots Grocery is a non-profit cooperative grocery store that opened in August 2015. We are open 7 days a week: Monday-Friday: 10am-7pm; Saturday: 10am-6pm; and Sunday: 11am-6pm. We are located in a USDA recognized "food desert" which means that it is a urban neighborhood without ready access to fresh, healthy, and affordable food. Instead of supermarkets and grocery stores, these communities may have no food access or are served only by fast food restaurants and convenience stores that offer few healthy, affordable food options. We are open to the public, but as a cooperative, we have memberships. The membership gets you a percentage off every purchase all year long! Members will also be able to order in bulk twice a month, at or close to at-cost. Our mission: We are a growing, effective cooperative grocery rooted in Alton, Illinois which will provide healthy and organically grown food, strengthen the network of local farmers, engage our diverse community in improving health and self-sufficiency, and contribute to a sustainable local economy.
