Great Lakes Fibers offers a fantastic CSA opportunity involving fleeces and yarn instead of kale and carrots.

Sort and skirt (pick through) newly shorn alpaca and llama fleeces in preparation for sending them to the mill to be transformed into yarn and roving. You will learn the difference between fine and course fiber, the importance of uniformity within each fleece and other aspects that affect the final product.

Cost is $75.00 and some sweat equity for a minimum of 2 hours. You will go home with two skeins of Great Lakes Fibers yarn, a commemorative T-shirt, locally roasted coffee sample and certificate for a free dyeing class.

Fiber sorting and skirting will be May 16th-18th, from 9am-5pm. You can attend any of these days. You will need to reserve your time and date and send your check by May 3rd. Checks should be payable to: Great Lakes Fibers and sent to: Great Lakes Fibers 3614 Hull Rd. Huron, OH 44839 Call or email Amy to R.S.V.P. and for more information. Visit our farm with your family and enjoy an afternoon with the alpacas and llamas. Find out if when and why they spit and just what the heck we do with their fleece. You will usually find us working on projects to sell or even up to our armpits in hot water washing fleeces. Our farm store and studio is heated and in the warmer months, we open the windows to let that nice Lake Erie breeze through.
