Mission Lackawanna College Environmental Education Center (LCEEC) is committed to educating the students of Lackawanna College and the citizens of Northeast Pennsylvania through innovative approaches leading to ecological sustainability. Description The Lackawanna College Environmental Education Center is located at 93 MacKenzie Rd., Covington Township, PA 18444. Dedicated in memory of Nancy Coccodrilli Angeli, the late wife of President Emeritus Raymond S. Angeli, the Center rests on 211-acres of property, and is Gold LEED-certified. The building provides a venue with seating for up to 100 people, and hosts progressive programs for the public, the College, and K-12 educators and students. The 5,000 square-foot facility uses an Integrated Design Process, developed by hemmler + camayd architects. Specific design features include a wind turbine, a geothermal HVAC system, a solar photovoltaic array, daylight harvesting, and a low energy design plan. These features reduce greenhouse emissions and help offset the maintenance and operating costs of the facility. The space also includes an interactive software monitoring system that provides live analysis of building data for water usage, solar and wind energy generated, reclaimed gray water usage and CO2 emissions saved. The $2 million dollar project was partially funded by DCNR Bureau of Recreation and Conservation Environmental Stewardship Fund; PA Department of Education; and US Department of Education.
