Welcome to Hidden Spring Farm! Here in the Piedmont of North Carolina we raise Leicester Longwools, the beautiful heritage breed of sheep. This critically endangered, dual purpose breed grows the lustrous, long and curly wool prized by handspinners.

Our goal is to humanely raise healthy sheep with beautiful fleeces who conform to the breed standard. Throughout the year the sheep have day long access to pasture with deep woods for shade during the often hot summer days of North Carolina. During wet and cold weather they come into the shed areas adjoining our barn. This is also where they bring themselves in the evening, knowing it's safe from coyotes and wild dogs. However, our 150 lb. rescued Great Pyrenees dog, Sam, is the sheep's main protection.

The sheep are mostly grass fed from April to November with hay given during the winter months. The pregnant or lactating ewes are fed grain, as well as the lambs at weaning. Our sheep are handled frequently and are very personable. As they head out to pasture in the morning (usually in single file) most of the ewes stop in front of me for a good back scratch. All of our breeding ewes were born and raised on our farm.
