We raise about 150 lambs per year. Ewes (mothers) are on pasture from spring through fall. They are rotated between 10 pasture paddocks moving to new grazing about every five days with the help of a border collie. They are then brought into a conventional barn or hoop barn about Christmas time. Lambs are born in February & March in an environmentally controlled barn then moved to a hoop barn after about one week. The lambs nurse their mothers for two months and are fed grain and hay until market time (May - July). The breed that we raise is called Polypay. They are more prolific than most breeds having mostly twins with a few single births and a few triplets. The ewes are sheared before lambing and raw wool (white) and fresh market lambs are for sale each spring. The flock is enrolled in the National Sheep Improvement Program. Visitors are welcome.
