Our butcher lambs are grass/hay fed. Our flock began as Cheviot ewes way back, but because shearing is hard to find, we bred to Katahdin and no longer have to worry about it. Switching out rams this year and going with a Kathadin/Dorper cross.
Our jellies are made from the mint patch behind our garage, apples, blackberries and mulberries from our own trees, and fresh strawberries mostly from Michigan u-pick farms. We specialize in blackapple jelly, which cuts the blandness of plain apple with enough blackberry to give it color and flavor. Each batch made on the kitchen stove just the way Grandma did it - well, MY Grandma, anyway. Except she used her own stove.
A note on the farm itself: We started with 5 acres that I couldn't mow, so we built a barn, fenced in the back 2+AC and got a horse. He nibbled and the new pasture got overgrown. So we re-fenced and got 3 ewes and a ram. They keep it down. We're now up to 10 breeding ewes and our ram, and are enjoying the heck out of it. ...the "not mowing" bit, especially.
Will prepare mint jelly for your sheep farm as well. Custom labeling, even.
