Why a CSA share from Homegrown?

Our produce is extremely fresh! We grow food in the Durham for the city! Our CSA is a super cost effective way to eat pesticide free food. Supporting urban farming is a good way to be a steward to the earth¢ï¿½?â„¢s resources. Support your local foodshed and help it grow. Support your local economy and local enterprise. Each member gets a farm made CSA bag made from salvaged fabric in which to pick up their vegetables each week. Each CSA member is welcome to attend any of the Homegrown City Farms workshops for free. What¢ï¿½?â„¢s in a share?

At Homegrown City Farm our CSA season will run June 1-November 30. We¢ï¿½?â„¢re offering summer shares which will run from June 1- Aug 31 and fall sharesthat run from Sept 1- Nov 30. We also offer shares that will run the full CSA season.

The exact contents of the share depend mainly on the time of year: different vegetables grow at different times!

Here are a couple examples of what a box (weekly share) may contain throughout the season:

A week in June: 2 pounds cooking greens (kale, collards, braising mix, bok choi), 1/2 lb arugala, spinach or salad greens), onions, 1 bunch beets, 1/2 lb bag of peas

A week in August: okra, chard, cucumbers, eggplant, fresh herbs, garlic, onions, sweet and hot peppers, potatoes, summer squash, tomatoes

A week in late October: 2 winter squash, 1 bunch parsley, 1 bunch cilantro, 3 pounds potatoes, 1 pound lettuce, 2 bunches celery, 2 pounds onions, 2 pounds cooking greens
