We are a hobby farm located in east central Minnesota. We raised chickens, sheep, goats and rabbits. We primarily raise sheep for their wool and meat. The farm is named for our favorite apple variety that grows on our property.
The spinning flock is made up of Shetland, Targhee, Corriedale, Romney, and some cross-bred sheep. This has enabled us to maintain a flock with a variety of fleece types. The color range is from white to black with some brown fleeces. We select ewes for wool quality, multiple births, and mild flavor. Ewes must be good milkers and good mothers. Additionally we have a few Suffolk sheep. Suffolk wool spins into a delightfully bouncey yarn!
Seasonally we have lamb for sale as breeding stock or freezer lamb.
We strive to produce high quality fleeces for hand spinning. The sheep are covered during the winter hay season to keep out as much vegetable material as possible. Fleeces are carefully skirted. Our fleeces have won top awards at the local county fair as well as the Minnesota state fair.
We raise several breeds of rabbits. We have French and Satin Angora, Californian, Dwarf Hotot, Jersey Wooly and Holland Lop. We hand spin the fiber from the angora rabbits and the Californians provide meat.
